Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead and oversee day-to-day operations while working closely with the CEO and the National Board of Directors. This strategic leadership role is essential for scaling operations and ensuring alignment with our mission and values. The COO will guide and execute the organization's overarching strategy, focusing on programs, philanthropy, financial management, organizational health, and more. This is a high-level, executive role that combines leadership, operational expertise, and a passion for mission-driven work.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
Oversee and manage day-to-day operations, ensuring alignment with the organization's strategic goals.
Translate broad strategic plans into actionable initiatives that are achievable and impactful.
Provide ongoing support to the executive leadership team on key business decisions, helping to manage risk and resources efficiently.
Foster a transparent and engaging organizational culture by actively communicating strategic goals and ensuring alignment across all teams.
Serve as a mentor, providing guidance on business planning, risk management, and organizational effectiveness.
Supervise fiscal management, ensuring positive performance relative to the annual budget and long-term financial models.
Actively contribute to fundraising efforts and resource development as needed to support the mission.
Represent the organization in local communities, enhancing its public image and engagement.
National Board of Directors Leadership and Management:
Serve as Secretary to the Board and act as the primary liaison between the Board and executive leadership.
Plan and prepare for Board meetings, working with the CEO and other leadership to ensure that Board decisions are well-informed and effective.
Support the Board's growth, management strategies, and governance functions, ensuring adherence to bylaws and nonprofit regulations.
Collaborate with the Chief Finance & Strategy Officer to create tools and systems that provide the Board with critical financial and operational insights.
Manage Board administration, including governance, record-keeping, and policy compliance.
Qualifications:
Strong passion for the mission and values of the organization.
A Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (Advanced degree preferred).
At least 15 years of nonprofit management experience, including familiarity with nonprofit governance and fundraising.
Proven ability to manage complex projects across multiple teams, driving organizational efficiency and measurable outcomes.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
Strong financial acumen, with the ability to interpret strategic visions into practical, operational models.
Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions that align with the organization's vision and strategy.
Expertise in operations management, risk management, human resources, and nonprofit compliance.
Experience with IRS laws and nonprofit regulations.
A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
Willingness and ability to travel.
